College Credit Exemption
Students who have attended other colleges may be exempt from NCC’s placement test.
If you’ve earned previous college-level English and/or Math credits from an accredited institution and received a grade of C (2.0) or above, you’re exempt from taking NCC’s placement test in that specific subject. (Please submit an official copy of your college transcript to our Admissions Office.)
If you’ve earned an Associate or Bachelor degree from an accredited U.S. college/university, NCC assumes you possess the English/math skills required to be academically successful in our college-level courses. You are therefore exempt from taking the Accuplacer placement test.
Please Note: NCC retains the authority to require a Math assessment for certain programs— and for all registrants after a period of 3 years.
Students who have taken the SAT/ACT exam may be exempt from the English and/or Math sections of our placement test.
Students new to college are required to attend a PAW Workshop for advisement.
Other students may contact the Counseling Center NCC’s Counseling Center 203.857.7033 for anadvisement appointment.
If you have questions regarding SAT/ ACT exemptions, please contact the Testing Center at 203.857.7077

If you have taken the NEW SAT (after MARCH 2016) and received a score of 25 or above on the Reading Test (RST1) or a 26 or above on the Writing/Language Test (WST1), you are exempt from the Accuplacer exam and are eligible to take English 101.
If your ACT English score is 21 or higher (or your composite ACT English/Reading score is 47 or higher), you are exempt from taking the English portion our placement exam and have placed into English 101.
Finally, if you received a score of either 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) test in English, you will receive credit as having taken English 101, are exempt from the English portion of the Accuplacer exam, and will receive transcript credit.
Please Note: SAT/ACT /AP scores may only be used if within three (3) years:
