NCC will be hosting an Open House on January 25, 12-1:30pm in the Multicultural Center for NCC students interested in joining Sister Circle.
Sister Circle, based on the One Circle Foundation© Girl’s/Women’s Circle, is a student mentoring group for female students. The model responds to recommendations from national organizations, including the National Council on Research for Women, that have pointed to the need for gender-relevant programs that allow girls and young women to voice their experiences, develop positive connections, and gain skills to pursue meaningful goals in education, careers, and relationships.
Launched in fall 2017, by the Office of Institutional Diversity & Equity, Sister Circle provides NCC students with an opportunity to receive mentoring; connect with, educate and empower one another; examine personal, academic, professional and social challenges; and set and accomplish academic, professional and social goals.
Through facilitated workshops and conversation, Sister Circle supports personal and collective strengths in young women. Workshop curricula includes leadership skills, financial literacy, resiliency, healthy relationships, goal setting and career explorations.
Thanks to the generosity of the Fairfield County Community Foundation-Fund for Women & Girls, NCC has seven employees trained to facilitate Sister Circle.
The following organizations in CT are a sampling of those who have had at least one employee trained in the Girls/Women’s Circle model:
– Bridgeport Board of Education
– Yale University
– Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence
– CT Department of Children & Families
– Girl Scouts of Connecticut
– Greenwich High School
– Yale University
