Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) hosted a press conference at NCC on Sept. 25 to discuss proposed state budget cuts that could severely impact higher education in Connecticut.
He was joined by area legislators, NCC President David L. Levinson, Ph.D. and Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling. The state’s 12 community colleges and four state universities could face a $90 million cut if a plan developed by Republican legislators is passed. The University of Connecticut’s budget could be slashed by $300 million.
Senator Duff noted that a “bipartisan budget is the goal” and urged lawmakers to come up with a revised plan. Students Kenley Bien-Aime and Lexi Andros spoke about their positive experiences on campus and the value of an NCC education.
