(Norwalk, CT) August 11, 2021 — The First Year Experience Program at Norwalk Community College (NCC) was recently recognized as a Program of Promise by the National Organization for Student Success (NOSS).
The Organization recognizes outstanding college programs that utilize effective and promising practices to promote student success and development during the first year of study.
Norwalk’s First Year Experience program was recognized for its successful outcomes and potential as a model for other programs that seek to help students navigate their first year of college study.
“While such programs may not yet be recognized nationally, they may be engaged in promising practices and are demonstrating positive outcomes” said Denise Lujan, President National Organization for Student Success, in a letter announcing the award.
NOSS Executive Board created the Programs of Promise: Outstanding Program Recognition to honor and recognize exceptional programs that exemplify the mission of NOSS.
“We are thrilled to receive this honor,” said Forrest C. Helvie, Ph.D., NCC Chair, Academic Enrichment & First-Year Experience Department and Coordinator, Center for Teaching & Learning. “’I am very proud of the FYE team for earning this distinction and of their hard work this past year.”
The award was virtually announced at the National Organization for Student Success annual conference in June.
