New Work Experience on the Menu

NCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management students often prepare tasty dishes for college staff and visitors. Now, they’re dishing them up for paying customers, too.

The department has launched a new Café Dining “restaurant” open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursdays (excluding May 9) in the Culinary Arts Dining Room. The program is designed to give students more experience with all phases of running a restaurant or foodservice operation—from prepping and preparing luncheon entrees to serving as waiters and managers.

NCC Culinary Professor and Chef Jeff Trombetta describes the menu as “fresh-quality, casual, sophisticated and modern.” Menu items range from $3-10; beverages are $1-2. Choices include steamed lemon dill salmon, New England clam chowder, fried chicken on a baguette, goat cheese and fresh tomato pizza, and mixed greens salad with protein add-on choices. Café Dining features a la carte ordering and sit-down service.
