Through April 13, Internal Revenue Service-certified volunteers will offer free tax preparation and filing at NCC through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. No appointment is necessary.
VITA assists people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need help in preparing their own Federal and State tax returns. This tax season, VITA hours are:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7- 9:30 p.m. in West Campus room 138
- Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in West Campus room 138
VITA volunteers include NCC accounting students who work under the direction of Professor Anthony Scott. Volunteers receive special training in determining a taxpayer’s eligibility for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and Education tax credits.
College students may be eligible for Education Tax Credits even if 100 percent of their qualifying education expenses are covered by Pell Grants, scholarships and other grants.
To determine your eligibility, search “Free Tax Return Preparation for Qualifying Taxpayers” on the IRS website: www.irs.gov. For information, call (203) 857-7358 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
