Assistant Professor of Film & Television Julie Casper Roth has been awarded a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Individual Artist grant.
NYSCA awards grants to organizations that support and sustain the arts in New York State. The Individual Artist award is particularly competitive, requiring that applicants apply with a detailed project proposal and budget. It also requires that applicants work with an approved sponsoring organization. Casper Roth partnered with sponsor WMHT-PBS in Troy, New York.
Casper Roth was awarded $17,500 for a documentary-in-progress, Rooted Out. The film tells the story of two men in Upstate New York who were denied a marriage license in the small town of Root. The town clerk turned the gay couple away citing her religious beliefs.
All awarded funds will directly support post-production of the documentary including film editing and funding the composition of original music for the project.
