The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of upheaval. In the face of this disruption, the staff and faculty of the PTA program at NCC are committed to our students. We still plan to accept applications for new students to begin the program in the fall 2020 semester. Please review the following information with regard to changes to the 2020 application cycle.
STAFF AND FACULTY ASSISTANCE
We may not be on campus, be we are still here for you! Please reach out to our student advisor, Denise Walsh (email@example.com) if you have any questions. She is available to assist you via email and even with videoconferencing appointments.
CHANGES TO THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Submitting your application: Although we are not physically working on campus, you should still send your application to the campus. We will be able to periodically retrieve applications that are mailed to campus. Due to the college closure, we are unable to accept applications that are dropped off. All applications must be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service to:
Norwalk Community College
188 Richards Avenue
Norwalk, CT 06854
Attention: Jennifer Bresnick
Given that the campus is closed, and on-campus mail delivery systems may be in some disarray, if you do mail an application, the recommended course of action is for you to email the program director, Jennifer Bresnick (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let us know it has been sent. That way we will know to look for it.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION
The deadline for submission of the application for the PTA program is still June 1, 2020. However, please note that there are some exceptions and grace periods below for items that are due with the application.
We recognize that some students are unable to complete their observation hours due to facility closures and restrictions. For the 2020 application cycle only, we will not require students to participate in observation hours. If you have already completed your hours, please include them on your application. Unfortunately, out of fairness to everyone, there will be no points awarded for observation hours this year.
PHYSICAL THERAPY RECOMMENDATION FORM
One of the application requirements is three recommendation forms. One of the forms is supposed to be from a PT or a PTA, which most students meet, and get to know, during their observation hours. We are waiving this requirement as some students will have difficulty completing their observation hours, and thus meeting a PT or PTA. The physical therapy reference form may come from any professional reference (i.e., employer, professor). You are still submitting three recommendation forms by the June 1, 2020 deadline.
With testing centers closed, it may be impossible for an applicant to complete this requirement by June 1, 2020. We are extending the deadline for this requirement to July 10, 2020. You must still take the TEAS test and earn a score of 50% or better to begin the program in the fall, and you must still submit your application by June 1, 2020. Just make a note on your application that you will take the TEAS test once testing locations are open again.
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY I
With colleges and universities moving classes to online formats, it is possible that the lab portion of your Anatomy and Physiology I course cannot be completed on time. We are extending the deadline for this requirement to July 10, 2020. This also allows students whose courses may have been completely cancelled to take BIO 211 (Anatomy and Physiology I) at NCC in the Summer I session. (As of the writing of this document on March 26, 2020, there are two such courses scheduled for the Summer 2020 semester.) You must still complete the course, and earn a C+ or higher to begin the program in the fall, and you must still submit your application by June 1, 2020. Just make a note on your application that you are in the process of completing the course that began in the spring 2020 semester, or that you are taking it at NCC during the Summer I session.
If your college or university is unable to provide transcripts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will extend the deadline to July 10, 2020. You must still submit your official transcripts, and meet the GPA cutoff of 2.5 to begin the program in the fall, and you must still submit your application by June 1, 2020. Just make a note on your application that you are in the process of obtaining your transcripts, which are delayed due to COVID-19 closures.
Again, please reach out to us if you have any questions.
