Introduction to Genealogy

About this Course

This class is for those who are ready to take up the #2 hobby in the U.S. (second only to gardening) and to explore and record their family roots. It’s a good fit for those who are fans of history, puzzles, treasure hunts, and detective stories.  Throughout the class, students will become familiar with the fundamentals of Genealogy research, documentary evidence, and the Genealogical Proof Standard. There will be specific instruction on finding and analyzing U.S. Census records; Birth, Marriage & Death records; U.S. Immigration records; U.S. military records; U.S. City Directories, and digitized newspapers that can be found online.



Prerequisites

Students must be computer and internet literate.
