Connecticut Childcare Course

About this Course

The purpose of the American Red Cross Connecticut Child Care Course is to prepare individuals who work with children to prevent injuries, give immediate care to a suddenly ill or injured person until more advanced help arrives, recognize childhood communicable diseases, and identify safe action at the onset of illness.

Course Objectives:

  • To improve the quality of child care by training child care staff in health, safety and child development.
  • To teach child care staff the basic first aid skills they need in order to care for an injured child or infant.
  • To train child care staff to reduce the risk of injuries in the child care setting
  • To train child care staff to reduce the risk of infectious diseases in the child care setting.
  • To provide child care staff with a working knowledge of common childhood illnesses, and the care and management of illness in the child care setting.
  • To train child care staff to recognize and report the signs of child abuse.

This class meets the State of Connecticut, Office of Early Childhood Regulatory Requirements for First Aid and Child Day Care Licensing Program.  This is for existing childcare providers and those seeking to become childcare providers. 

Students will receive a certificate from the American Red Cross which is valid for two years.

Please check with the State of CT Office of Early Childhood for a complete list of requirements for Child Day Care Providers.  CT Childcare Participant Manual will be provided in class.
