Certified Nurse Aide
About this Course
This course is intended for adults who are interested in entering the healthcare field. The program prepares students for employment in both public and private agencies. Students will learn how to care for people who need help in caring for themselves. Classroom lecture and lab is combined with clinical training at a local skilled nursing facility. Upon completion of the course participants will be able to perform basic nursing skills and recognize areas of safety for both patient and self. This course prepares students for the State of Connecticut Competency Exam. Students will become eligible for the Connecticut State Nurse Aide Registry. Course topics include but are not limited to: Basic nursing and personal care to patients; helping patients maintain or regain everyday tasks including eating, bathing, dressing, and toileting; communicating with patients and providing physical (includes heavy lifting) and emotional support to them; making patient observations and reporting them; participating in care planning.
***Class will meet on campus 6/12, 6/14, 8/2. The remaining lectures will be online.
Entrance requirements:

- Covid-19 Vaccination, including booster (In order to participate in off-site clinicals, students must be fully Covid vaccinated 14 days prior to the first day of off-site clinical. Current Flu vaccination is required.
- Students’ must have reliable transportation to clinical site
Required Supplies:
- NCC approved wine-colored scrub top and pants, plain white non-canvas shoes with non-skid soles
- NCC name tag (purchased in the NCC bookstore)
- A watch with a second sweep hand
- Textbook and workbook are included in the tuition

clinicalThe total cost of Connecticut Statewide Healthcare Industry Pathways is $6.9M. $3.4M (49%) is funded through a U.S. Department of Labor-Employment and Training Administration grant and another $3.5M (51%) is committed through non-federal state and local resources.
