Portrait, ink
At first everything seemed scary and I felt that I wasn’t good enough compared to those whom were truly talented and had been practicing for years. I was also shy and awkward and proud, probably the worst mixture of things but I somehow always managed. I never asked for help and I never complained I just did as I was told for every assignment I was given by professors. Even so, I still always listen and paid attention to any comment anyone made because I wanted to better myself not for the sake of others and being better than others, but to prove to myself that I could.

In my work you can find dedication and love. I never give up on a piece no matter how “bad” it may look or if anyone says it’s not enough. I always keep going. I purposely challenge myself in everything I do. I don’t think about it too much nor question anything, I just go at it. You could find in my work things that I wouldn’t say out loud. I call any canvas or paper my subconscious because a pen, pencil or brush will take me places I won’t understand until I get there. I don’t want anyone to think I don’t know what I’m doing, I just let my art breathe and I don’t ever force it be what it doesn’t want to be. I find inspiration in everything I see, be it faces, humor, art, or life itself. I’m affected by everything around me: the bad, the ugly, and the truth. I don’t look for perfection in any of my pieces not because I can’t achieve it but because it’s not my style. I like reality and honesty not only for me, but for the rest of the world that live lies. I like to see progress and stress and emotion in any art form.

I survived three years at NCC as a full time and also working full time because I WANTED to succeed and I LOVE what I do. Needless to say that with the help of professors helping me see what I couldn’t and pointing out my flaws and what I needed to work on the most. I am forever thankful to the two people that inspired and I learned the most from, Joe Fucigna and Chris Durante. I’ve yet to meet such blunt, direct, and truly fascinatingly interesting people. I hope they both know everything little word of wisdom they have entrusted me with will forever hold in my memory. Both fairly strange and geeky but with knowledge that could blow minds.

Both students and staff taught me one truly valuable thing. I learned in Norwalk Community College that you CAN achieve the “impossible” as long as it means something. The school also taught me that when in doubt, go BIG or go RED.
