Criminal Justice

Mission Statement

The Criminal Justice program is dedicated to offering a high quality education to students in the three parts of the criminal justice system: law enforcement, courts, and corrections.  The program is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as the skills needed to pursue careers in local state, and federal criminal justice agencies, private loss prevention and security, and not-for-profit social service organizations.  The program utilizes a variety of teaching methods designed to create a stimulating learning environment and to promote learner success.  Successful completion of the Criminal Justice Program leads to the Associate in Science degree.

After successful completion of this program, students will be prepared to pursue entry-level careers as local and state law enforcement officers, as support personnel in juvenile justice, social service, criminal law offices and the criminal courts, as well as in advanced positions in security and loss prevention and corrections.  Area employers actively recruit NCC students.  The NCC Career Center is a useful resource that is available to students.

Those students who are interested in advancing their educational goals are well-prepared to transfer to four-year colleges and universities to study for a Bachelors degree in criminal justice, public administration, pre-law or the social sciences.  Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution are encouraged to consult with staff in the Counseling Office and to contact the school to which they wish to transfer to learn about specific school requirements.
