Program Requirements

  • College application with application fee of $20.00 for first-time applicant to any of the twelve Connecticut Community Colleges.
  • Official High School transcripts indicating graduation or GED.
  • Official College/university transcripts, if applicable.
  • Proof of Measles and Rubella immunization.


Complete the required Accuplacer computerized placement test.  The placement test maybe waived for applicants who have prior college English and/or mathematics credits.



Admission Requirements for fall of 2015:

  • HS graduate or equivalent
  • Accuplacer score eligible for MAT 94 or higher completed prior to application deadline.
  • Accuplacer score eligible for ENG 101 or higher completed prior to application deadline
  •  High School Keyboarding with a C or better.
  • For Co-operative Education Work Experience, students must meet the following requirements:
    • GPA of 2.2 or higher
    • Interview with Medical Office Coordinator
    • Completed 15 credits in course requirements for Health Office Certificate including:
      • Medical Terminology
      • Medical Insurance and Billing




All high school and college/university transcripts must be received by the Admissions Office postmarked no later than the application deadline.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to confirm the receipt and evaluation of all transcripts with the Transfer Coordinator.




  • Non-Medical Office Specialist Courses - Applicants must have official transcripts from other colleges or universities sent to the Admissions Office by the application deadline.  In accordance with transfer of credit guidelines set forth by the Board of Trustees, courses which meet Medical Office Specialist program requirements will be accepted by the college.
  • Credits Earned Outside the United States – Transcripts need to be evaluated by the “Course By Course” option through the World Education Services Inc, PO Box 745, Old Chelsea Station, New York, New York 10113 or another site approved by Norwalk Community College.


Transfer Medical Office Specialist Students from Programs outside Norwalk

Transfer students who wish to transfer Medical Office Specialist courses from another college or university will be considered for transfer after a written request for evaluation of Medical Office Specialist course work has been received by the Medical Office Coordinator.  Applicants must meet all Medical Office Specialist program admission requirements. Transfer students will be admitted based upon the student’s meeting eligibility requirements and the availability of openings, clinical resources, and faculty.
