Ongoing Construction @ NCC

01.11.2017 - East Campus, 3rd floor - HVAC Continues

There will be a staging area in front of the Foundation office (room E311) for the HVAC project. The center staircase from the second to the third floor will be closed on Thursday, January 12th and Friday, January 13th. Also, the electricity for the entire east campus will be shut from 4:30am to 6:30am on Friday, January 13th. All computers and other equipment should be working properly after 7:00am. If you have any difficulty with your computer, please contact the helpdesk at extension 76800.

The roofing projection continues on schedule. It should be completed by the end of the month.

Thank you for your continued patience during the construction.

12.16.2016 - East Campus, 3rd floor - Temporary Staging Area

Beginning Monday December 19th the center stairs between the 2nd and 3rd floor will be blocked off as will the center corridor on the 3rd floor. There will be a staging area for construction work outside of room E212 and access will only be available through the side door in the corridor by the elevator.

12.16.2016 - Phase III Construction

We are excited to let you know that we are anticipating breaking ground on the Phase III construction in Fall 2017. This construction will bring us a new theater and a student commons. With all good things must come a little pain - and this pain will be in the form of lost parking spaces and our large meeting areas. We were told to expect the loss of 60 parking spaces and the use of the theater and the cafeteria for the 18 month project timeline.

We are going to be enlisting all who want to help with solutions to our temporary issues and intend on working with the Planning and Budget committee and the Senate. It will be an exciting and challenging project but NCC will be all the better for it.

I’m looking forward to the project and to working with you.

Best regards,

12.02.2016 - One Month to Go

As you probably noticed the roofing project on the east side is nearing completion. There is about one month of finishing work left. That’s the good news. The other news is that the HVAC construction is in full swing. If you’ve been on the east side you probably have heard the drilling noises. There will be a considerable amount of work done between the semesters on the 3rd floor and in the Library. There will be a need from time to time to close stairways and or corridors. I will update this information as soon as I have it.

Tomorrow the center stairs from the first floor to the second floor on the east campus will be closed. Please be mindful of the signs and caution tape that rope off the staging areas.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Best regards,

Therese Marrocco

11.01.2016 - Roof Construction Update - Installation Begins

If you work over on the east side you are probably aware that the roof project is still going on. I am happy to report that the “rip” – the removal of the old roof is completed and the new roof is being installed.

The new roof:

The work on this project continues until March. When the warm weather rolls around again this work will be much appreciated. I know that is has been an inconvenience for some and I appreciate your patience.

10.06.2016 - Roof Construction Progress

Dear colleagues,

I write to update you on the construction projects on the east campus. The roof tear down is moving along and just about halfway complete.

Roof construction timeline

The sites listed as complete have been prepared for the new roofing. ( Additional information and timelines about the new roof installation will be forthcoming).  As the construction shifts to the back side of the building the parking availability will also shift. There will be restricted parking in the back lot and some more available spots on the side of the lot near the #8 door. Please be mindful to obey the detour signs and follow the instructions of the security guards in the parking lots.

The chiller plant project is also in full swing. The contractors are working on the first floor right now. If your space is going to be impacted you will hear directly from Craig Carlson. The contractors and the maintenance staff are doing an outstanding job of trying to keep the interruptions down to a minimum.   Thank you for your continued patience!

09.26.2016 - New Roof Construction Begins!

The roofing project will be in full swing on Monday, September 26. Please note the following changes:

  • Door #7 will be closed all day. That is the door that provides entrance to the library from the north wing of the east campus. It will be accessible to exit from in the event of an emergency.
  • Door #8 will be the only entrance on that side of the campus. The is the door closest to the Childcare Center.
  • Areas of the north wing parking lot will be cordoned off and inaccessible. Please look for detour and no parking signs for instructions.

Construction materials will occupy approximately ten to twenty-five parking spaces at different points during the project. Please continue to carpool or take public transportation if possible.

To address any disruptions indoors, we are working on a plan to make swing space available for any classes that may need to be relocated for the day.

In addition to our roofing project which is underway, the College is fortunate enough to have two other state funded projects that will be taking place this semester.

Chiller Plant

Renovations to the HVAC system on the east campus have begun. You probably won’t notice much disruption yet as the project is still in the mobilization phase. Beginning the week of October 8th demolition will begin. Walls and ceilings in select locations will need to be taken down to allow for new piping. When more specific details are available we will send out additional communication.

Exterior Doors

All exterior doors on the east side will be replaced with new state of the art security doors. While the project will happen this semester it has been delayed till after finals to hopefully cause less disruption.

We will providing regular updates on this construction project and other projects that will be starting soon.
